HAHA studio was commissioned by Jim & Jacob Restaurant Group to develop the design concept for Kasten, a new bistro in Stockholm. The studio was given full creative responsibility for both the digital identity and the physical environment.

A comprehensive graphic identity was developed, including logo, custom typography, menus, and printed matter. In parallel, HAHA studio designed and produced bespoke lighting, signage, and site-specific artwork integrated into the space.

Process

Kasten’s narrative draws inspiration from a 17th-century Stockholm restaurateur and Maître d’, Kasten Hoff. The identity references the cultural and social dimensions of dining, then and now, incorporating motifs connected to theatre, wine, food, and music. The logo reflects this in a playful manner.

A custom “Pheasant Lamp” was designed and produced as a tribute to local hunting traditions, referencing gatherings that historically took place at the site following pheasant hunts.

For the main dining room, a large-scale aluminum wall artwork was commissioned. The piece depicts an abstract, comedic scene where staff and guests interact.

Result

HAHA studio delivered a cohesive spatial and graphic concept for Kasten Bistro, spanning identity, signage, lighting, and artwork. Custom street and entrance signage were developed, alongside bespoke lighting solutions for dining areas and restrooms. The project also included custom aluminum wall art, bar coasters, and menus. Ensuring a consistent expression across the space.
